Mark 9
20 They brought the boy to Him. When he saw Him, immediately the spirit threw him into a convulsion, and falling to the ground, he began rolling around and foaming at the mouth. 21 And He asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood. 22 It has often thrown him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if You can do anything, take pity on us and help us!”23 And Jesus said to him, “‘If You can?’ All things are possible to him who believes.”24 Immediately the boy’s father cried out and said, “I do believe; help my unbelief.”
“If You Can?” ???
I have seen the Lord work in spectacular ways! He most certainly CAN!
We have read of His Awesome Miracles, some of us have seen them with our own eyes. As history repeats, we are still stamping question marks on what God can do.
Believing takes action! It’s an attitude alteration!
I Do Believe! Lord, Help me with my unbelief!
Faith In His intervention.
This reminds me of the television show Intervention. The need is there, the support is there, but one little thing needs to take place before it can all go forward. “Will you accept this help that is being offered today?” …YES!
Jesus often gave that same approach.
Matthew 9:28
When He entered the house, the blind men came up to Him, and Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” They said to Him, “Yes, Lord.”
And again in John 5
6When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he had already been a long time in that condition, He said to him, “Do you wish to get well?”
7The sick man answered Him, “Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up, but while I am coming, another steps down before me.” 8Jesus said to him, “Get up, pick up your pallet and walk.” 9Immediately the man became well, and picked up his pallet and began to walk.
JESUS proposed a question and the man gave an answer much like we do, he began to explain the problem. We sometimes even go as far as the blame game, pointing to others. Or we look to the past for our answers. We continue to point to the problem instead of the Problem Salver.
Jesus already knew his dilemma, he wanted to know if he wished to be well or if He believed JESUS could make him well. It was a, lets do something about it moment! The next step was for JESUS to get this guy to move into ACTION! Get up and Walk! Move Forward!!!!
The need is there, the support is there, will we say yes! Will we pick up that pallet and walk?
Not only Walk.. but will be stay on the path and Keep walking? This takes action, a choice, this takes obedience, and commitment. The action is not saying yes to our own strength, it’s A YES to The LORD! I Believe you can make me well!! I Believe In Your Work! I Believe you can help me overthrow temptation and depression, I Believe you will work Forgiveness In my heart! I Believe you are able to restore broken Relationships! I Believe You work all things For The Good! I Believe You have set me Free! I Believe In Your Love!! I Believe you are For me and not against me! I Believe you will not forsake me!
Philippians 4:13
13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
Matthew 15:28
28 Then Jesus said to her, “O woman, your faith is great; it shall be done for you as you wish.” And her daughter was healed at once.
Mark 11:24
24 Therefore I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and they will be grantedyou.
In Matthew 13:
Jesus had returned to his home town. He was preaching and teaching, and they received him with offense. They just couldn’t believe. They said, where did he get all of this? They had so much doubt, how could the son of Mary and and carpenter? How could that kid be the Man we see today? Were they jealous? Could they not get past His upbringing.. did they think nothing good could have come from his family or their town? Why did they have such hard hearts?
This happens today too, and I believe this is why it’s mentioned, it is very relevant. CHRIST said, they will hate you because they hate me.
Sometimes people we are closest to, just can’t get over our old condition. When they see us they see our past. They just can’t BELIEVE in God’s work. Listen, we have an empathetic God! His home town was filled with hard hearts. Have Faith, Let God be your defense.
The reason I bring this up, is to point out what He did Not do in His home town.
Because of their unbelief….
Matthew 13:58
58And He did not do many miracles there because of their unbelief.
Hebrews 3:12
Take care, brethren, that there not be in any one of you an evil, unbelieving heart that falls away from the living God.
John 20:31
31 but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name.
John 11:26
and everyone who lives and BELIEVES in Me will never die.
Do you believe this?”
Romans 15:13
13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
